Jurnal Nerns Lentera

A pioneer of modern Nursing was Florence Nightingale, who was born in 1820 in England and died at the age of 90 years. She is known as “The Lady with The Lamp” because while on duty in the war zone in Turkey, she treated the wounded soldiers in the treatment barracks by bringing a lantern – lentera in Indonesian, as a lighting device. Florence saw the conditions of care, treatment, nutrition, and sanitation were far from satisfactory. This exacerbated the suffering of the soldiers. She was then moved to improve the situation by improving and growing the maintenance system, data recording, and statistics. With the lantern, a nurse should see, think, and have knowledge to develop the qualification of nursing knowledge. Using the lantern also, a nurse enlights one’s heart to care and share with those who are being cared for. The light of lantern is a symbol of hope and holistic assistance to those in need.
