Dean's Welcoming Speech

Welcome to the Teacher Education Faculty

Founded in 1960, the Teacher Education Faculty (FKIP UKWMS) is committed to providing quality learning services in order to prepare professional educators who have characters, and are reflective and creative. UKWMS FKIP also actively participates in the development of the national education by participating in research and community service activities that have a positive impact on improving the lives of others.

As the oldest faculty, FKIP UKWMS has six programs consisting of undergraduate and professional education study programs. The first three study programs (Guidance and Counseling, Indonesian Language Education, and Mathematics Education) are located at FKIP UKWMS Madiun Campus, while the other three study programs (Physics Education, English Language Education, and Early Childhood Education Teacher Education/PG PAUD) and Professional Teacher Education are located at FKIP UKWMS Surabaya Campus.

In the previous decades, UKWMS Madiun Campus and UKWMS Surabaya Campus were two managerially separated campuses. In 2019, UKWMS Madiun Campus and UKWMS Surabaya Campus were merged into one Foundation (Widya Mandala Surabaya Foundation based on the Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 442/KPT/I/2019. Then in 2022, based on a Decree of the Board of Management of the Widya Mandala Surabaya Foundation Number: 064/YWMS/SK/III/2020, officially three Study Programs at UKWMS Madiun Campus, namely Guidance and Counseling, Indonesian Language Education, and Mathematics Education Study Programs joined FKIP UKWMS Surabaya Campus.

In 2018, FKIP UKWMS proposed the establishment of the Teacher Professional Education Study Program (PPG) with two fields, namely English language education and Physics Education. The presence of this Professional Program makes the study options at FKIP UKWMS complete. FKIP UKWMS provides not only Academic Programs (Bachelor’s Degree/S-1) but also Post-S-1 Professional Programs.

The trust given by the public and the Government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology/Kemdikbudristek) continued to increase so that in 2018, the FKIP UKWMS was trusted by the Ministry of Education and Culture to carry out its role as the Implementing Agency for School Principal Strengthening Training (LPD PKS) in 2018, 2019, and 2020 and in 2021 the FKIP UKWMS was assigned by the Ministry of Education and Culture to assist in organizing the Training for Candidates of Principals. Not only that, in 2018 and 2019 FKIP UKWMS received a Lecturer Assignment Program grant in Schools (PDS). This program was a collaboration between FKIP lecturers and partner school teachers to design and implement learning in schools. In addition, since 2021 FKIP UKWMS has also received a mandate from the Directorate General of Teachers and Education Personnel of the Ministry of Education and Culture to participate in the Motivating School Program through the involvement of FKIP Lecturers as Assessors, Expert Trainers, or Facilitators of the Motivating School Program.

In addition to supporting and participating in Kemdikbudristek’s domestic programs, FKIP UKWMS is also actively participating in Kemdikbudristek’s internationalization programs (Merdeka Belajar – Freedom Campus/MBKM) such as IISMA (Indonesia International Student Mobility Awards) in order to strengthen the internationalization of Study Programs within the FKIP UKWMS’ environment. In addition, the internationalization of the Study Program is also strengthened by the synergy of FKIP UKWMS with The University of the Immaculate Conception Philippines and Lourdes College Southern Philippines.

The continuous synergy of FKIP UKWMS with partner institutions is a manifestation of our commitment in our efforts to always provide quality learning services with a humane learning environment.

Kind regards,

Dr. V. Luluk Prijambodo, M.Pd.
Dean of the Teacher Education Faculty

About Us

On September 20, 1960, the Teacher Education Faculty was established in Madiun. The establishment of this Faculty was confirmed by the Widya Mandala Foundation (YWM) with Decree No. 318/Sec/Ya/72. In line with the development of Higher Education in State Universities, and based on the Decree of the Minister of PTIP No. 159 of 1965, starting on August 7, 1965, the Widya Mandala Teacher Training and Education Faculty was made the Widya Mandala Teacher Training and Education Institute (IKIP). As a result, since this year, YWM managed 2 universities, namely Widya Mandala University and IKIP Widya Mandala.

With the approval of the Region VI (now Region VII) Private Universities Coordinator in Surabaya and based on the Decree of the General Universities No. 164, starting on 27 August 1969 IKIP Widya Mandala was changed to the Faculty of Teacher Training (FIK) and integrated into Widya Mandala Surabaya Catholic University (UKWMS). Because the designation of FIK was deemed to be incompatible with its actual function, based on the Decree of the Region VI Coordinator of Higher Education (at that time) No. 032/I/1974 dated May 8, 1974 starting from April 1, 1970 the name of FIK was changed to Faculty of Teacher Training (FK).

Finally, with the issuance of the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 014/I/1983 and the Decision of the Working Board of the Widya Mandala Surabaya Catholic University on April 14, 1984, the name FK was changed back to the Teacher Education Faculty (FKIP) and remains part of the Widya Mandala Surabaya Catholic University.

In 2018, there was a merger between Widya Mandala Surabaya Catholic University and Widya Mandala Catholic University Madiun based on the Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 442/KPT/I/2019. The incorporation of the Mathematics Education Study Program, Indonesian Language Education, and Guidance and Counseling under the Teacher Training and Education Faculty is stipulated by the Decree of the Board of Management of the Widya Mandala Surabaya Foundation Number: 064/YWMS/SK/III/2020. Thus, FKIP UKWMS has 3 undergraduate study programs in Surabaya, 3 undergraduate study programs in Madiun City, and 1 Professional Study Program (PPG) on the Surabaya campus.
