About Us

Facing the development of communication technology and information disclosure as well as the increasing prospects for industrial development in the field of communication, especially in East Java and Indonesia in general, which of course really need experts in the field of communication and are driven by a desire to participate in the implementation of higher education in communication sciences, the University Catholic Widya Mandala Surabaya in the 2010/2011 academic year opened the Communication Studies Study Program.

The Communication Science Study Program officially obtained an operational permit for the implementation of education on August 16, 2010 with the Decree of the Minister of National Education number 122/D/O/2010 concerning the Granting of Permits to Organize the Communication Science Study Program (S1) at Widya Mandala Catholic University in Surabaya.

While the Decree of the Widya Mandala Foundation numbered 107/YWMS/SK/X/2010 was issued on October 13, 2010 which stated the establishment of the Communication Studies Study Program at the Business Faculty of Widya Mandala Catholic University, Surabaya.

Pada tanggal 5 September 2011, berdasarkan SK Yayasan nomer 090/YWMS/SK/VII/2011 Program Studi Ilmu Komunikasi resmi bernaung di bawah Faculty of Communication.

Obtaining accreditation with a B rating was obtained through SK BAN PT No.0490/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/V/2016. Entering the 2017/2018 school year, the Communication Studies Program underwent curriculum changes based on the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI).

On March 19, 2020 based on the Decree of the Board of Management of the Widya Mandala Surabaya Foundation Number 064/YWMS/SK/111/2020 concerning Clusterization of Study Programs at the Madiun City Campus Into Study Program Management Units (Faculty) within Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya, it was determined that The English Language Study Program (Bachelor) is included in the management of the Faculty of Communication Sciences

The title obtained is a Bachelor of Communication Science (S.I.Kom) for the Communication Science Study Program. Bachelor Degree in Linguistics (S.Li) for PSDKU English. Length of Study 7-8 semesters (3.5 – 4 years) with a minimum total of 144 credits.

Journal

KOMUNIKATIF : Jurnal Ilmiah Komunikasi

Komunikatif is issued by Fakultas Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya since 2012. Komunikatif is a peer-reviewed journal. Komunikatif publishes an article from selected topics in communication studies; those are media studies, public relations, and human communication. Articles issued by Komunikatif are conceptual articles and research articles. Komunikatif aims at publishing research and scientific thinking regarding the development of communication studies and contemporary social phenomena. Komunikatif also wishes to become an eligible reference for students and/or academia, especially in the communication field. Komunikatif is issued twice a year (July and December). Komunikatif clarifies ethical behavior for all parties involved, including authors, editor-in-chief, Editorial Board, reviewers, and publisher. Komunikatif provides free access for the online version to support knowledge exchange globally.

Kemampuan berkomunikasi tidak bisa lepas dari setiap aspek kehidupan manusia. Hal tersebut yang ditawarkan oleh Faculty of Communication Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya (FIKOM UKWMS) yaitu berkomitmen untuk menjadi Kemampuan berkomunikasi sangat dibutuhkan pada setiap aspek kehidupan manusia. Hal tersebut yang ditawarkan oleh Fakultas Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya (FIKOM UKWMS) yaitu berkomitmen untuk menjadi Fakultas Ilmu Komunikasi unggul dan terpercaya di Indonesia dengan mengembangkan dan menyiapkan sivitas akademika menjadi sarjana ilmu komunikasi yang berlandaskan nilai kreatif, reflektif, professional.

This is demonstrated through the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education (PT), namely by organizing quality education and teaching to produce graduates who are creative, reflective, professional and able to apply their competencies in supporting industrial progress, technology and social welfare; also conducts research and community service activities to produce works that are useful for scientific development.

FIKOM UKWMS has 2 study programs (Prodi), namely Communication Studies Study Program (located on the Surabaya Campus) and English Language Study Program (located on the Madiun City Campus). In particular, the Communication Studies Study Program has 4 graduate profiles, namely Communication Academics, Communication Content Developers, Communication Implementers, Communication Entrepreneurship.

FIKOM UKWMS students have a great opportunity to take part in the Free Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) program, this is supported by the implemented curriculum, namely Outcome Based Education (OBE). Some of the MBKM programs that students have participated in and become an advantage are Student Exchange (both domestically and abroad), Certified Internships and Teaching Campus. The UKWMS Communication Studies curriculum is also designed to provide experience working in real industries through practical work, both journalism, public relations, advertising, and broadcasting with various project-based assignments. The Tri Dharma PT activities are also supported by good cooperation with the business world and industry, and alumni of course complement the quality of FIKOM UKWMS.

About

UKWMS is a university that received Accreditation A from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education and is known as one of 50 Promising Indonesian Universities by the Directorate General of Higher Education. UKWMS has received the Superior Campus Award consecutively from 2010 to 2018. UKWMS is also the only university in East Java to win the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) Award in 2018.
