On September 20, 1960, the Teaching and Education Faculty was established in Madiun. The establishment of this Faculty was confirmed by the Widya Mandala Foundation (YWM) with Decree No. 318/Sec/Yes/72. In line with the development of Higher Education in State Universities, and based on the Decree of the Minister of PTIP No. 159 of 1965, starting on August 7, 1965 the Widya Mandala Teaching and Education Faculty was made the Widya Mandala Teaching and Education Institute (IKIP). As a result, since this year YWM has managed 2 tertiary institutions, namely Widya Mandala University and Widya Mandala IKIP.
With the approval of the Region VI Private Tertiary Education Coordinator (now Region VII) in Surabaya and based on the Decree of the General of Higher Education No. 164, starting on August 27, 1969 IKIP Widya Mandala was changed to the Teaching Science Faculty (FIK) and integrated into Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya (UKWMS). Because it was felt that the FIK designation was not in accordance with its actual function, based on the Decree of the Region VI Tertiary Education Coordinator (at that time) No. 032/I/1974 dated 8 May 1974 starting from 1 April 1970 the name FIK was changed to Faculty of Teaching (FK).
Finally, with the issuance of the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 014/I/1983 and the Decree of the Meeting of the Working Board of Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya on April 14, 1984, the designation of FK was changed back to the Teaching and Education Faculty (FKIP) and remained part of Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya.
In 2018, there was a re-merger between Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya and Widya Mandala Madiun Catholic University based on the Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 442/KPT/I/2019. The merger of the Mathematics Education Study Program, Indonesian Language Education, and Guidance and Counseling under the Teaching and Education Faculty was stipulated by Decree of the Yayasa Widya Mandala Surabaya Management Board Number: 064/YWMS/SK/III/2020. Thus FKIP UKWMS has 3 undergraduate study programs in Surabaya, 3 undergraduate study programs in Madiun City, and 1 Professional Study Program (PPG) at the Surabaya Campus.

UKWMS is a university that received Accreditation A from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education and is known as one of 50 Promising Indonesian Universities by the Directorate General of Higher Education. UKWMS has received the Superior Campus Award consecutively from 2010 to 2018. UKWMS is also the only university in East Java to win the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) Award in 2018.
