Pharmacy Study Program

The Bachelor of Pharmacy study program is one of the oldest study programs at Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya (UKWMS). It was first established in September 1964 along with the establishment of the Faculty of Pharmacy. Currently, the Undergraduate Pharmacy Study Program is one of the two study programs managed by the Faculty of Pharmacy of UKWMS, in addition to the Pharmacist Professional Study Program.

The current curriculum of the S1 Pharmacy Study Program is the 2015 curriculum and has been evaluated and revised minorly in 2018. In 2019 to 2020, the curriculum of the S1 Pharmacy Study Program has been evaluated and revised based on input from stakeholders internal and external, and adapted to meet the Curriculum Based on Outcome-Based Education System (OBE System) and AUN standard. At the end of 2020, in line with the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Policy launched by the Minister of Education of the Republic of Indonesia, the S1 Pharmacy Study Program curriculum was again revised to accommodate the MBKM program.

Number of undergraduate pharmacy students (student body) is around 725 - 850 people. The number of graduates over the past five years (from even semester 2014/2015 to odd semester 2019/2020) is 671 alumni. Graduates of the Bachelor of Pharmacy Study Program can generally work in the pharmaceutical field, including the pharmaceutical industry in the marketing and distribution department (Large Pharmaceutical Factories) or the pharmaceutical industry. Quality Assurance (QA), as lecturers or researchers at Higher Education Institutions and Research Institutions, as government staff (city / regional / provincial / Health Office / Food and Drug Monitoring Center). In addition, graduates of the UKWMS Pharmacy Undergraduate Program can also become entrepreneurs in the food and chemical industry, or as owners/managers of pharmacies.

After completing studies in the Bachelor of Pharmacy Study Program, graduates can continue their studies to the pharmacist profession level, so that after becoming a pharmacist, graduates have more authority and responsibility in managing a pharmacy. In the pharmaceutical industry, pharmacists graduated from the UKWMS Faculty of Pharmacy can be in charge of the production department, quality control (QC)quality assurance (QA), and the distribution section. In addition, by becoming a pharmacist, graduates can be in charge of hospital pharmaceutical installations and pharmaceutical warehouses in government institutions and health centers. Bachelor of Pharmacy graduates of the Faculty of Pharmacy at UKWMS can also work as lecturers and researchers with sufficient ability to continue their studies to a higher level (S2 and S3).

To achieve its vision and mission, the Undergraduate Pharmacy Study Program has established a Five-Year Strategic Plan (UKWMS Rector Decree No. 2011z/WM.01/E/2015 - 2015/2020) and an Annual Operational Plan (WMCUS Rector Decree No. 2241d/WM.01/T/2019 - 2019/2020 for the 2019/2020 operational plan). The management of the WMCUS Pharmacy Undergraduate Study Program is based on the Quality Standards for Higher Education Management which are regulated in the UKWMS Education Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) document. The internal quality assurance system involves the Faculty Level Quality Assurance Group which is responsible to the Quality Assurance Office of Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya. Currently, the management of the UKWMS Pharmacy Undergraduate Study Program has resulted in public recognition, namely in the form of the acquisition of Accreditation "A" by the Institute for Self-Accreditation of Higher Education in Health (LAM-PTKes) in 2017.
